More about these products

Why should I choose a business desktop computer?

When it comes to business computers, your first choice is between a business laptop and a business desktop. If you’re constantly working on-the-go, then a business laptop is ideal. But business desktops have their own unique advantages. For heavy-duty business people, desktops have a number of advantages over laptops

A business desktop will provide you with more processing power than a laptop, which you might need if you’re going to be running large software programs. Business desktops tend to be more powerful simply because they’re larger, and so they’re often equipped with stronger hardware.

Business desktops also tend to ventilate better than laptops do, so you won’t have to worry about your hardware getting damaged from overheating.

And desktops generally have more ports, so if you need to plug in a variety of external devices, then a desktop may be a great fit.

What makes a good work desktop?

There’s no official standard for a work desktop, because work responsibilities are not cookie-cutter. What you need from your computer may vary depending on your job and what tasks you need to perform. However, most business desktop computers have 6 key attributes.

1. Strong processor

The central processing unit (CPU) is the main hardware component that’s responsible for carrying out tasks, like running software programs or making calculations. Processors are equipped with “cores.” When your processor has lots of cores, it can process more data simultaneously and you’ll be able to run your computer programs at faster speeds - including web browsers, office programs, databases, and video conferencing.

We equip our HP business desktops with processors that have a high number of cores, usually between 6 cores and 8 cores. This ensures that you’ll enjoy faster speeds when you’re running programs, which will help you be at your most productive when you’re working.

2. Lots of memory (RAM)

When you’re working, you probably have multiple office programs open at once. You need your email, a web browser, office software, etc. Sometimes, having multiple programs open will cause your computer to perform at slower speeds which can severely hinder your productivity. The best business desktop computers are equipped with a high amount of memory (also known as random access memory, or RAM).

RAM is the memory that your computer uses when it’s carrying out tasks. When you have multiple programs open, then your computer may run low on available RAM and have difficulty running your programs at their highest speeds.

We equip all of our business desktops with a high amount of RAM, typically between 8GB and 16GB. This ensures that you’ll be able to run several programs simultaneously without slowdown.

3. High storage capacity

You probably store a lot of data on your office desktop, from files to records to programs. A good business PC should have a high storage capacity so you store all your data with ease. When your computer runs low on storage space, you might not be able to save new data, and you might also suffer performance slowdown. It’s best to have a PC with plenty of storage space, with lots of space leftover.

It’s important to note that there are two main kinds of storage types: hard disk drives (HDD) and solid-state drives (SSD). A hard disk drive can typically store a larger amount of data, so this type of drive might be best if you plan to store lots of archival data. A solid-state drive is faster, so this type might be best if you have lots of different files that you’re using frequently.

4. Expandable

Office desktop computers should be “expandable” which is just another way of saying that they should have lots of ports so you can plug in your external devices. Many professional PC users prefer to use a dual-monitor setup at their workstation, so your business desktop should have multiple video ports to accommodate monitors. But you should also have ports for your external hard drives, speakers, headphones, and USB devices.

We equip our business desktops with a wide array of ports, and some models are even equipped with high-speed ports, like USB-C and Thunderbolt.

5. Security features

You may have to store confidential business data on your computer, and that’s why it’s important for your data to be protected by various software programs. HP business desktops are equipped with a slew of security features, including firewalls, encryption protocols, and more. Some models are even equipped with fingerprint readers so only you can authorized individuals can gain access.

6. Webcams

This may not be applicable to everyone, but if you frequently conduct video calls with clients, then you’ll need a top-notch webcam so you can communicate clearly.

What’s an all-in-one computer?

An all-in-one computer is a PC that consists of one single unit. The display houses all the hardware. All-in-one computers make for great business PCs. They can help you maintain a clean and clutter-free workspace because they’re so compact and don’t require as many cables. They’re also easier to take to and from the office. We have several business-optimized All-in-one computers that have all the hardware specs you need to stay ahead of the game at your workplace.

What’s a workstation computer?

You might need a workstation PC if you’re in the business of creativity or engineering. Workstation PCs are equipped with the most powerful hardware components so they can run the most processing-intensive tasks. Typically, these are tasks that creative professionals do, like video rendering and 3D animation. Engineers may also have to run very complicated simulations that require the processor to do intricate mathematical computations.

Our HP Z workstation computers are perfect for professionals who need to run such programs.

Does HP have any smaller desktop computers?

Look for one of our slim office desktops if you have a very small workspace. These business computers come in smaller sizes, but they’re still equipped with all the hardware you need to be efficient in the workplace.

What are the best business computer accessories?

Complete your workspace and browse our business desktop computer accessories. Browse our computer monitors and use the filters to find displays that are business-optimized. You’ll also be able to find the perfect keyboard, mouse, external drives, webcams, and more.
